Short answer: December–February is the cheapest and best window for most tree removal and pruning in the Huntsville area — crews have open schedules, dormant trees are lighter and more predictable, and the ground is firm for equipment. The one hard rule on the calendar: no oak pruning February 1 – June 30 (oak wilt season, per Texas A&M Forest Service), with pruning paint on every oak cut year-round.

The year, month by month

  • Dec–Feb: prime time. Removals and trims at the year's best prices. Oak pruning legal and safe (until Feb 1).
  • Feb 1–Jun 30: oaks are off-limits for pruning. Pines, sweetgums, everything else: fine. Spring storm season ramps — deadwood and roof-overhang trims before April pay for themselves.
  • Jun–Nov: hurricane season, peaking Aug–Sep. The time to remove the dead pine is before the season, not during. Storm work itself carries a 50–100% premium — that's demand, everywhere.
  • Sep–Oct: post-peak: this is when the "I meant to deal with that tree" calls surge. Book early.

Why storm-season prices spike

After Beryl crossed Huntsville in July 2024, every crew in three counties was booked for weeks and out-of-town outfits rolled in charging accordingly. The math is simple: the same tree costs half as much in January as it does lying on your roof in August. Standing dead pines and heavy roof-overhang limbs are the two things worth handling before the season.
